About
Dumbara, a blog born from the misty embrace of Sri Lanka’s Knuckles Range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where history and nature dance in harmony. Settled within this rugged expanse, Dumbara -named for its mist-laden hills, from “dum” meaning smoke or mist and “bara” meaning heavy or laden – echoes with the legacy of Sri Lanka’s last king, Kirti Sri Rajasinghe. Here, terraced paddy fields carve the earth like living poetry, and the past whispers through the landscape that inspired us to explore “roots, wings, and everything in between.” What begins in this enchanting hill country stretches far beyond, into a world of stories waiting to be told. At Dumbara, we chase the threads that connect us to the earth and the sky. From the wild beauty of Knuckles’ wildlife and the artistry of traditional cooking to the wisdom of Dhamma and the pull of distant lands, we’re captivated by life’s eclectic spectrum. This is a space where the intricate history tied to a fallen kingdom meets the flight of a rare bird, where the scent of a spice-laden dish mingles with reflections on existence. Unbound by borders, we dig into the details—uncovering hidden gems, sharing tales that spark wonder, and inviting you to wander with us through the ordinary and the extraordinary alike.
